How To Keep Things Simple!
How to Keep Things Simple!
Keep things simple!
That is what I’ve always wanted to do.
But I have this incredibly annoying habit of making things more complicated than they should, or need, to be.
Hence why I’ve always been someone who ‘got there eventually’. Because I kept thinking too deeply, analysing too much, trying to make things perfect.
When all I needed to do was get started and just get something done. There’s always time for changing things later.
There’s a time and a place, perhaps, for complication but I’d rather err on the side of simple.
Simple to do, simple to understand, simple to take action on!
It’s taken me a while, I’m still a work in progress but hey, I’ll definitely get there eventually!
Here are my top 5 tips for keeping things simple:
1: Declutter!
Less is more!
Declutter your life, your mind, your physical space.
The more ‘stuff’ you have, whether it’s living in your head or in your immediate surroundings the more weighed down you will be.
Give yourself time to declutter your environment. Are you holding onto things just for the sake of doing so, or do they actually serve a purpose in your life?
Yes, there are personal things we’d like to ‘hold’ onto, they are our memories, they mean something to us. But, even with those are you holding onto too many?
Could you narrow them down?
Ask yourself the purpose of holding onto them.
Remember the more ‘things’ we have in our lives the more they clog up our mental space as well, something which is already quite full with all that we’re potentially holding onto in there!
Hence why decluttering of your mind is crucial to keeping things simple.
Letting go of things, such as past hurts, worries, stresses, even current ones.
Free up that space for new adventures and to be able to make the most of new opportunities.
2: Plan
Plan your days, your weeks, your months, your years!
No, they don’t all have to be set in stone, there can always be an element of flexibility included.
By having a plan you’re then not wasting your time by doing things that aren’t a part of the plan.
Plus, you’re not going to be complicating your life by being distracted by anything not on the plan.
First, identify what it is you want to do and achieve in different areas of your life. What you ‘must’ do, what you’d like to do, what you dream of doing.
Second, identify the steps that you need to take to achieve these goals.
Set targets, identify resources required – time, energy, money, effort.
Then take action and make the plan happen, bring it to life!
3: Learn to say No
What are you saying yes to when you’d rather be saying no? Or what are you saying no to when you’d rather be saying yes?
Start to learn to say no. Honour your time, your energy, your process.
Keep your life simple by not complicating it with things you’d rather not be doing and missing out on those you would.
4: Ask Yourself Why
Whenever you do something ask yourself why you’re doing it.
Is it something you want to be doing, perceive that you have to be doing, or is it something you feel forced into doing?
Which one is it?
What are the reasons for you spending your time, energy, money, effort on something?
Be clear on the why and then making the decision whether it’s a good enough reason for you to be doing it.
5: Focus
Focus on those things that make you happy, that help you grow as a person, that don’t distract, or divert, you from your journey.
Check in with your plan, your goals, your targets, the steps you’re taking to achieve what it is that you want to achieve.
There will always be more we could be doing but by doing so it means we’re being taken away from our path and making our life more complicated.
